Who hasn’t heard of Instagram, the free app that lets users share photos, either publicly or just with their ‘followers’ (i.e. users who follow you)? With 300 million users, the app has long since overtaken Twitter, and it’s no wonder that Facebook bought it for a billion dollars in 2012, shortly after its launch (less than two years later).

Why is Instagram so popular? What draws users to it? One answer could be the so-called ‘Instagram gold’ that can be found on the app. Unlike Facebook, which is often seen as quite personal and where friend requests from complete ‘strangers’ can be viewed negatively, here our attention is literally welcomed, and we can follow the subjects of our interest, whether they be: the rich, the famous, the beautiful, or people who photograph the world around us.

One such piece of ‘Instagram gold’ is the handsome Tomáš Arsov, a famous entrepreneur and hairdresser who owns a salon in the centre of Prague, where celebrities flock in droves to become even more beautiful thanks to Tomáš’s talent. We asked him a few questions about Instagram:

Tomáš, what made you decide to set up an Instagram account?

“Most people started using the app. I wanted to try something different too.”

How often do you use Instagram?

"Whenever I have a photo I like. I’m not a very active user and I probably don’t make the most of Instagram. But I do post photos so that they’re up to date."

If you had to choose between Facebook and Instagram, which would you pick? Why?

"Personally, I’d choose Facebook – it has both photos and all the latest updates from my friends’ lives, and it’s easier to communicate there. Among other things, I also use Facebook extensively for my work."

Could you describe Instagram as a place where you find inspiration?

"I suppose so. I look at photos on all sorts of topics. Sometimes I pick something that really catches my eye and let it inspire me… thanks to Instagram, lots of interesting photos are created."

You look great, there’s no doubt about that. But have you ever come across any negative feedback on this social media platform?

"I’m not aware of it happening to me personally, but I know that sort of thing does happen. People very often judge a photograph solely on its form, without focusing on the content…"

You currently have 1,770 followers, which is a great number! Do you do anything to increase that number? If so, could you give our readers some advice on how to do it (hashtags, etc.)?

"Unfortunately, as I mentioned, I’m not a very active user; I upload the photos I like and then leave it to fate…"

A bonus question to finish with: deep down, you’re just wanting to show off a bit about how SEXY you are, aren’t you?

"Haha, of course I am (laughs)!"
