Frozen spoons and the "splash" method. What's the cheapest thing to do to the skin to make it look younger? Advice from a celebrity facial masseuse
What do you get out of a facial massage?
We can count more than 40 muscles in our face, which - along with the surrounding fibres and tissues - can stagnate and weaken over time. On the one hand, we lose muscle mass and on the other, we store stress and tension. Like our bodies, facial muscles respond well to deep massage, stretching and pressure point techniques. Based on my years of experience, I have developed my own "Bolder Method" to address these issues. This procedure helps to improve muscle tone, stimulate collagen production and combat fine lines and wrinkles. And importantly: it also ensures that the skincare products we invest money in work much more effectively within our daily home routines.
Remind your muscles where they belong
When performed correctly and consistently, this method will first and foremost improve lymph flow - in fact, it will awaken the lymph nodes in the face and neck area, helping to reduce stagnation and drain toxins. Promoting blood flow through massage will bring fresh oxygen and nutrients to the surface of the skin. This will help to warm the facial muscles and tissues, allowing us to work deeper into the muscles, release tension, reposition the muscles (by reminding them where to sit, upwards and outwards) and increase the effectiveness of the products. Overall, we achieve a brighter and more youthful complexion.
If you'd like to try a facial massage, here are some easy ways to get started:
Start on the top of the head. Many of us carry stress and tension in our faces, especially in the jawline, forehead and temples. Start with gentle massage movements on the top of the head where the crown chakra is located. This connects to the central nervous system and provides physical and mental relief.
By massaging key points on the face, head and neck, you will feel the stress of the day melt away. It can help you calm your energy before bed or refresh and start the morning with a clear mind. Massage is especially beneficial for those who grind their teeth at night, clench their jaws or have built up tension in their body over the years that causes muscle inflammation.

If you're already investing in quality skincare products, it makes sense to make the most of them. If you incorporate facial massage into your routine, you'll help your skin absorb serums, moisturizers and oils more effectively. Massage allows the products to penetrate deeper into the skin, ensuring that your skin gets all the promised benefits. And if you're a bit of a procrastinator, try incorporating a few simple massage movements while cleansing your skin and then continue with your skincare routine.
Quick tips for a Hollywood glow (on a budget)
Facial massage offers a fantastic way to achieve celebrity-worthy skin - but there are also quick and easy techniques you can reach for when you're short on time or money. These simple methods can make you look extra radiant
The spoon tweak
If you have puffy eyes in the morning, try this simple but effective technique:
1. Put two dessert spoons in sealed freezer bags - keep them at the ready.
2. If necessary, lie down and place the cold spoons on your closed eyes so that the bulging side of the spoons is on the "bags" under your eyes.
3. Hold the spoons in place for a few minutes, or until they begin to warm up.
This quick trick will help you get rid of puffiness and refresh the sensitive area under your eyes, leaving you looking rested and radiant.
A refreshing ice "mask" for the face
For a quick skin boost: Fill a bowl with water and ice. Gently dip your face into it (for a few seconds). This cold immersion relieves inflammation and energises the skin at the same time. This can temporarily reduce redness or the sensitivity of "spots", especially if you have rosacea-prone skin. The result? The dewy complexion you've been craving.
The cold water splash method
If immersing your face in ice water seems too intense, opt for a gentler alternative: try splashing your face with cold water 30 times. This method will help tighten your pores, boost circulation and give your skin a natural, healthy glow.
