10 special features of the facelifted Lexus LC Coupe

The LC Coupe is one of the most spectacular and progressive cars Lexus has ever produced. It is a masterpiece of modern automotive design. But the car is also exceptional in many other interesting details.

The LC combines a number of impressive features, from the sophisticated paint technology to the door handle moulding and the rivets used to join the car's parts. Each of these features is itself an example of the meticulous attention to detail and quality craftsmanship that Lexus puts into each of its models.

Blue paintwork according to the laws of nature

The striking bright blue hue of the tropical butterfly's wings is actually an optical illusion. It's only due to the way the wings reflect light. This is exactly how the shade of Structural Blue was created, with a pigment made of microparticles that mimic the reflection of light. Looking at LC straight on, the blue is extremely energetic. If you look away at a certain angle, the shade darkens considerably, creating an effect that accentuates the curves of the coupe. The painting process itself is so complex that the capacity of the paint shop is just three cars per day, with production limited to just 300 units.

Even more sophisticated radiator grille

The spindle-shaped grille is a typical feature of new Lexus cars and always captures the key character of the model. In the case of the LC Coupe, the radiator grille is made up of hundreds of individual blocks forming a raster with a striking 3D effect. From bottom to top, the dimensions of the pattern used and its optical tension vary. The design used is not isolated from the rest of the car, but stems from dynamic curves that run backwards across the entire body to the rear. The top edge of the chrome bonnet frame is missing and instead there is a break that draws the bonnet itself into the design.

The brilliant brightness of the LED headlights

Lexus has used new technology to create ultra-compact LED headlamps for the LC coupe with PES (Polaric Ellipsoid System) lenses that are less than half the diameter of conventional LED sources. Despite their small size, they guarantee excellent illumination with the ability to design slim and elegant headlight units. Each unit includes three LED projectors and daytime running lights with the typical Lexus headlight layout.

Designed door panels

Due attention has also been paid to the refinement of the cabin, particularly in the area of the door panels. These are striking with flowing, sharply defined curves that play off an attractive screen design. The use of chrome accents and contrasting upholstery materials brings high quality and helps to create a luxurious atmosphere throughout the cabin.

Recessed door handles

The LC is the first Lexus car to use recessed door handles. Nothing protrudes from the surface of the doors when they are closed, so nothing can interfere with the sculpted curves of the body or the aerodynamic properties of the car. When the door handle is extended, the door surface immediately below it is automatically illuminated for 15 seconds. When the door is closed, the intensity of the light slowly diminishes until it is completely extinguished.

Aerodynamics at the rear

The air intakes are generally considered essential for cooling purposes, but in the case of the LC they also play an important part in the aerodynamics of the vehicle. The air inlets at the rear immediately behind the doors smooth the airflow down the sides of the car, helping to suppress noise and noise. From the driver's point of view, this means a more intense feeling of close contact between the rear wheels and the road surface, which significantly improves the coupe's driving behaviour and dynamic capabilities.

Manhattan Orange interior

For the interior of the LC in the 2020 model year, Lexus has introduced an attractive new color option. The Manhattan Orange hue takes inspiration from the famous Manhattanhenge - twice a year, the setting sun exactly aligns with the skyline of New York City's famous grid of streets. The aforementioned shade on the deck of the coupe evokes an exclusive avant-garde atmosphere.

Rivets for a better ride and greater safety

You may not be able to see the self-expressing rivets used in the production of the LC Coupe, but you'll no doubt appreciate their contribution to the strength and rigidity of the car, which contributes to agile driving behavior as well as better protection for the crew in the event of an accident. Rivets are an innovative way of joining different types of metal where traditional welding cannot be used. On the LC model, they are used to join aluminium and steel in the lower part of the body. For perfect precision, the assembly is controlled by a laser beam.

Shifting under the steering wheel

Lexus strives to make the driver feel that he or she has blended seamlessly into the car when behind the wheel, which is why human-centric design techniques are applied to all details. This includes, among other things, the design of the paddles under the steering wheel used for manual shifting. They are made of a modern and pleasant-to-the-touch magnesium alloy and their shape allows instinctive use even when the driver's hands are in different positions on the steering wheel. Top design and workmanship guarantee a premium look and feedback.

Stronger and lighter bodywork

The LC Coupe is characterised by its perfect balance. Metals and materials are used in its construction, contributing to both greater strength and weight savings. The bonnet and front wings are therefore made of lightweight aluminium, which also reduces the risk of possible injury to pedestrians. A mix of materials is used for the doors, including mouldings made from carbon fibre composite material (CSMC) and aluminium. The construction used saves approximately half the weight of a typical door, contributing to the LC's low centre of gravity and excellent handling capabilities.
