Forget the espresso. New research shows that morning sex can kick-start your day and career better than coffee

Research among 1,000 workers shows that morning intimacy can be a stronger start to the day than coffee. It helps with concentration, boosts self-esteem and, according to many people, is behind their work shift. A life hack that sounds too easy? Maybe. But the numbers speak clearly.

The alarm will go off. You reach out to negotiate a few extra minutes, hoping this morning won't hurt any more than yesterday's. But somewhere between the half-sleep, the warmth of the duvet, and the hesitation of whether it's time to get up, something can happen that quite subtly switches your whole day into a better mode. Not yoga or a cold shower. Morning sex.

And yes, this may sound like an over-the-top life tip that's more likely to be laughed at. Only this time, it's not an influencer in leggings, it's a date. According to a new study from ZipHealth, which reached out to 1,000 working people, morning lovemaking may be more effective than most of the productivity tricks that pop up at us from the internet every day. Adjusted hormones, better mood, increased focus - and all before the first sip of coffee.

The secret to promotion? Maybe it lies in your bedroom

Some of the findings are almost suspiciously encouraging. Like the fact that 71% of people involved in morning lovemaking said they feel more productive at work. Seventy percent said they get more done. And over half of those surveyed are happier after work - which is a lovely euphemism for, "the day just clicked."

But one detail stands out: nearly one in five regular morning enthusiasts received a promotion during the year. And half of them also got a raise. ZipHealth sums it up almost poetically: morning sex may be the most reliable career trick that doesn't make it past the HR department, but it works.

The connection makes sense psychologically, too. Sex releases endorphins - nature's "feel-good capsule" - and oxytocin, known as the hormone of trust and intimacy. Translated into office speak: less anxiety, more calm, more confidence in meetings, less irritable circuits in the brain when you see a queue of emails. And according to some older research that looked at emotional stability after sex, it's an effect that can last for hours.

So if you ask people why they trust themselves to present in front of a board today, they might give you an honest answer, "Because... just a good morning."

Better than coffee? Surprisingly, yes.

Coffee is like morning prayer for the urban population. It's not questioned. It's taken as fact. But thirty-five percent of the study's respondents said sex is a better start to their day than their first cup. And another 24% admitted that it sometimes makes them late for work.

Which, by the way, is another cute detail: generation Z is the most likely to allow it. Maybe it's because they've finally understood that life isn't just about Excel spreadsheets.

But surprisingly, the biggest "bangers" are not millennials or Z-ers, but Generation X and baby boomers. Yes, these two generations, who often talk about "how young people today don't think about waking up", lead the morning intimacy rankings. The millennials are right behind them - perhaps because they've discovered that morning sex is the only discipline you can win at, even with a mortgage.

Who enjoys morning sex the most? Marketing, hospitality and show business

It may come as no surprise, but the most active people before heading to the office are those in industries where energy, confidence and performance are at work. Marketing, service, entertainment. Something like "professions with high adrenaline and social interaction".

The differences are even more pronounced between positions: executives lead with 26%, with managers right behind with 23%. Maybe that's because people in management have long known that hacking their own energy is part of their job. Or maybe they just get up earlier.

Morning sex as home anti-stress therapy

From a physiological point of view, it's simple: after sex, the body swims in a cocktail of hormones that calm the nerves, lift the mood and reduce stress reactions. No expert can sum it up more poetically than your own body telling you after your morning orgasm, "Today will be easy."

And the ZipHealth study backs it up with data. People who prefer morning lovemaking report better mental health, higher self-esteem, and greater emotional stability. They even report that they handle stress significantly better than those who save sex for the evening. And that makes sense - in the evening we're tired, overwhelmed, with the whole day on our minds. In the morning, the body is rested, and testosterone levels, which are directly related to libido, are highest throughout the day.

So... should we set an earlier alarm?

That's up to you. There is no universal recipe that works for everyone. But if you feel like your mornings are too mechanical, cold, and cluttered with responsibilities, it might be worth making a little "joy window."

Not to chase productivity or win a promotion (although statistics suggest that's not out of the realm of reality either). Mainly because, at a time when there is endless debate about the impact of work on our mental health, it turns out that the very simplest solution may be the most enjoyable.

And if there's one thing to take away from this, it's this:
before you open your emails, before you order an iced latte on the way to the office, try something that no one ever told you in a corporate training session.

Start your day in a way that will wake you up, make you laugh, and maybe even get you a bigger paycheck.

And it's definitely more fun than a double espresso.
