The first gay episode of naked dating site Naked Attraction is here. It'll show you more than you expect - and not just physically
Reality show Naked Attraction CZ&SK continues its quest for record ratings - and tonight it will offer the first ever gay episode on Óček. Those who have a Prima+ subscription have been able to watch it since Monday. The main protagonist is twenty-nine-year-old Jakub, a mobile phone salesman who enters the show with unusual openness and vulnerability. After a difficult period, mental problems and physical complications, he decided to show the world not only his body, but above all himself.
At first glance, Naked Attraction might seem to rely on primal nudity and shock. But Jakub's story shows that there can be much more behind the body. In his case, it's primarily the power to survive - twice he has stood on the edge of life, the first time because of suspected testicular cancer, the second time because of a mental breakdown. Music saved him, specifically Kylie Minogue's All the Lovers. His tattoo of the pop icon is not a fan gesture, but a symbol of gratitude and rebirth.
When Jakub appears in the studio, he looks confident, even though he carries with him a history of pain. He makes no secret of the fact that he likes piercings, including intimate ones, and that he is attracted to the Slovak language. For the first time, Slovaks appear in his selection - a small but important detail that adds a cross-border dimension to the show. But it also reveals layers of the queer community that are not common on screen: fetish, openness, authenticity.
And this is where we get to why this episode is important, because for the first time Naked Attraction shows gay relationships and desires without censorship, without shame and without filtering. In the context of Czech television, this is a step forward - not only because queer bodies finally have a space, but also because it shows that even a "naked show" can actually be about intimacy, vulnerability and acceptance.
But at the same time, we shouldn't forget that representation comes with responsibility. The gay community is not one image, one aesthetic, one type of person. Yes, there are queer people who love piercings and fetish, but there are equally those who seek simple intimacy, family, silence and peace. And if Naked Attraction is to be truly inclusive, it should, in the future, show the diversity of the queer world in its entirety - not just the visually appealing and "televisual" parts of it.
But Jacob's story deserves respect. He has shown the courage to be seen. And at a time when LGBT+ people are once again often talked about more than talked to in the Czech Republic, that kind of openness has power. The power to normalise what is perfectly common - that queer people live, love and desire just like anyone else.
And if you're curious about what went into the making of Naked Attraction' s first gay episode and why it's important how we think about queer representation, watch me as a guest on Naked Warm-Up. It's there that I talk about why the gay community shouldn't be stereotyped and how shows like this can be a space for real change.
Naked Attraction CZ&SK airs on Ócek every Wednesday at 22:00. Naked Warm-Up starts at 21:30.
