The "October Theory" is spreading like an avalanche through TikTok. According to it, you should make major life changes this month
October is traditionally associated with the full arrival of autumn and preparations for the winter holidays. But apparently that's not enough for people, because TikTok is currently trending the so-called "October Theory", which brings a whole new perspective on this month. Through this theory, many users are saying that October is not just an ordinary month, but a key period for reflection and major life changes.
According to Chloe Van Berkel, a popular Tiktok creator with nearly 70,000 followers, October is even something of a New Year, kicking off the last quarter and serving as a time for people to look back on their accomplishments so far. So the "October Theory" says that this month is a time when we should remind ourselves of what we've accomplished from the beginning of the year to this point. Chloe points out how quickly the last months of the year go by. From Halloween to New Year's, she says, many people are consumed with the winter holidays, and therefore consider October to be the last quiet month when we should be making major life decisions.
To make matters worse, October also kicks off a period called "cuffing season," a time when singles look for a partner so they won't be alone in the winter. "People realize they want someone to spend the holidays with," says Chloe, adding that many new couples are formed during this time.
For some, "The October Theory" is a warning that there are important steps to take before the end of the year that have been put off until now. TikToker's Monica describes October as a good time to think about changing jobs, for example. "It's like a little nudge on the edge of a cliff to finally make a commitment," she explains.
The "October Theory" thus generally motivates people to focus on self-improvement. And indeed, many TikTok users have begun to share that this month represents a reboot of sorts for them. Others see October not as a New Year, but as their "new spring." One user commented: "Autumn is my spring. The leaves are changing colors and the air is crisp."
