"She showed me naked pictures of her ex and wanted us to invite her to meet us." Bizarre dating stories that leave you reeling
Anyone who's ever gone on a blind date or arranged a date through an app knows that it's always a bit of a lottery bet. It can be an evening full of unexpected chemistry, but it can also be an awkward hour where you're just waiting for an excuse to escape. And it's these "I never want to experience this again" moments that often turn into stories that entertain friends more than any romantic happy ending. Three young people from Generation Z who were contacted by LUI's editors openly shared their dates that crossed the line of awkwardness and turned into stories that are simply unforgettable.
"He only ordered water for the two of us and told us to look for food in the trash can."
Ondřej, 24, economics student
Ondrej was looking forward to a date with a girl he met through Tinder. They arranged a date at a restaurant, but the evening took a completely different turn.
"When she came over, she seemed nice, until the waiter came to serve us. She looked at me and said, ' We'll just have tap water. We're freegans, we're not going to support this capitalist crap, I didn't know what to say," says Ondřej.
"She took me around the corner to the supermarket, where she opened a bin and started to pick out packets of food that were out of warranty. She handed me some moldy bread and laughed that I was a 'typical consumerist kid with a grudge'. I stood there in my new shirt, wondering how to get out of there fast."
The date was over within twenty minutes. "When I tried to leave, she said, ' You'd be a bad partner anyway, because you don't know what real freedom is.' It was the craziest date of my life - and the last time I met someone without much vetting."
"She talked about her ex all night and ended up showing me naked pictures of her."
Karolina, 22, works in marketing
After weeks of writing and searching, Karolína felt she had stumbled upon an interesting woman. But the first date quickly changed the dynamic.
"It started innocently - a drink, small talk. But after ten minutes, the conversation turned to her ex. At first I thought she needed to come clean. But then she opened the gallery on my phone and started showing me pictures of them together. Some of them even showed her ex naked," says Karolina.
Surprised by what was happening, she tried to change the subject. "But she kept saying, ' Look how beautiful she was, what an ass she had. I sat across from her and felt like I was her psychologist."
The highlight of the evening came when her potential girlfriend left to go to the toilet and on her return she dryly said. At that moment, Caroline got up and left. "To this day, I still take it as a bizarre lesson that people often bring their past with them on dates, sometimes quite literally."
"He came with his mom. And mom started crying during dinner."
Tomas, 25, graphic designer
Tomas initially thought he was in for an ordinary evening. He and his boyfriend texted on Grindr, exchanged a few jokes and agreed to have dinner. But what followed took him completely by surprise.
"When I arrived, he was sitting at the table with his mom. He introduced us and said it was important for him to get to know her new partner right away. I thought he was joking, but no. She got right into the conversation: ' So what about your family, are you planning a wedding, children?'
After a while, the atmosphere got even worse. "When we talked about work, his mom started crying. She said she was afraid her son would end up with someone who wasn't ambitious enough. He comforted her right in front of me and I just sat there with a drink in my hand. It was absolutely surreal."
Thomas left after half an hour. "On the way, I got a message:you' ve disappointedme. I laughed, but at the same time I thought, "I don't think I'll be surprised on my next date."
Embarrassments that turn into memories
The experiences of Ondrej, Karolina and Tomas show that dating is not just about romance, but also about moments when you feel caught off guard, embarrassed or completely out of touch with reality. With distance, however, these encounters become stories that are told between friends and sound almost unbelievable.
"When I tell my friends, we laugh about it. But at the time I wished the ground would open up under me," Ondřej concludes.
