The couple built the brick house with their own hands, but they didn't want any attention. Today on Instagram they inspire more than 100 thousand people
Do you remember the moment when you first realized that you really wanted to live in a house that you built with your own hands?
I confess that the idea first came from my husband. I hadn't thought about this option at all - or rather, I didn't think we could do it on our own, even though our family had been self-builders for generations. But gradually I was leaning more and more towards it, and now I can't imagine having someone else build our house.
What does your house say about you? Do you think it reflects your personal story or some deeper values?
It definitely reflects our, well mainly my (laughs), I would say quite specific style, but also our characters.
How did you experience the moment when you first woke up in your new house?
It was a big thing for us - it took us maybe a month to get used to it.
How did building the house affect your marital relationship? Did it teach you anything new about each other?
It definitely brought us together a lot. It taught us to compromise and we made a lot of memories together.
Was there a moment when you really weren't sure you made the right decision? How did you overcome that uncertainty?
That moment never really came after the decision to build it ourselves. Fortunately, everything actually went smoothly from start to finish, we were lucky.
What decision related to building your house was most contrary to what others advised you to do? And why did you end up going your own way? For example, did you follow the advice from people in the comments on IG?
We built to suit ourselves from the beginning, the materials used back then were a bit unconventional - the brick cladding of the house, the Technistone in the kitchen, generally the whole style in which the house is built wasn't and probably isn't for everyone now. But I'm the kind of person who, when someone tells me otherwise, it makes them even more convinced of the truth (laughs).
What have you discovered about yourself through this project - maybe something you didn't even know was in you?
For me, it's definitely that I can follow through and get passionate about something. My husband, on the other hand, has discovered that he is even more patient than he thought.
If your house could tell a story, what would you want it to say about you and your family?
That we are a perfectly normal family, with mistakes, successes and failures. A family that sticks together, likes ordinary things and enjoys time together even in ordinary activities like gardening.
Has your house fulfilled a childhood dream? What was it?
It fulfilled a big dream of mine and my husband - to live in the country. We both spent a lot of time in the countryside and couldn't imagine living in an apartment and a city.
At what stage did you start getting collaborations? Was it during construction or after? And was it your house that made you have them, or were they connected to other projects?
The profile of the brick house was created long after it was built. We never had the ambition to document the construction and share it with the world, the IG profile was actually created by accident, thanks to a friend who has a similar profile about housing and actually pushed me into it a bit, knowing that nobody here has such a specific style of house and interior. To this day I think that it is because our profile was not created "on purpose" and it was from the beginning without any major goals that it grew unexpectedly fast and continues to grow.
