Actor Jaromír Nosek became a bricklayer and the face of an advertising campaign during the pandemic. In it, he's an elegiac who gets rid of one of his vices
What does actor Jaromír Nosek do when he can't do theatre, and bartender Jaromír Nosek do when he can't go behind the bar? How much did the covid era affect you?
Actor and bartender Jaromír Nosek does a completely different job with other actors and bartenders. (Laughs) There's a lot of things that I started doing during the pandemic. I drove a lizard, a van, knocked the air conditioning out of the wall with a hammer, settled a swimming pool, trimmed touches, cut beams, moved kitchens or changed the mufflers on a scooter...
Your face is quite familiar, how did people used to react when you brought them a beer at the U Rarášků pub, where you worked as a bartender? And how do they react now when they see a "TV actor" riding a lizard or working on a construction site?
They've all been very nice and, lately, very forgiving. In fact, they have seen from my example that actors are not really afraid of work, which is what some people often mistakenly think of us.
You had also planned to direct a play called The Friend, which was to premiere in March this year. Can we look forward to its staging in the summer, which theatregoers look forward to as a time when they can at least perform outdoors?
The Friend actually premiered in March, but probably only for three people, so we're waiting. My pragmatic guess is that we're waiting until at least the fall. I've even started directing a second play now - Richard III. But again, in a drawer and "on hold".
You've become the face of the glo hyper+ brand, a heated tobacco device. What is your relationship with these technological innovations, nicotine, and vices in general?
I used to smoke conventional cigarettes, then tried electronic ones, but they didn't catch on. Eventually, it was the heated tobacco devices that got to me, and in my opinion they are the closest to a real cigarette. So I'm glad I was able to cut out the classic cigarettes. But in the future I plan to quit smoking altogether.
What is your opinion on actors appearing in commercials? When you yourself are considering an offer to be the face of a brand, what plays a role in your decision?
I generally don't want to do too many commercials. But specifically, the offer from glo came at a time when the money - frankly - was more than handy. Still, I have to say that I consider the tobacco warming device in particular to be a meaningful product that can help people as much as it has helped me. So I thought - why not?
In the aforementioned campaign, you are styled as a dapper man in a perfectly fitting suit, was this styling a "necessary evil" that goes against your image a bit, or do you also like to "throw down" in everyday life?
I do like to throw myself into a gala, although I don't swim in it. (laughs) But once in a while I really look forward to a suitable occasion. So it was definitely not a "necessary evil", on the contrary it was cool!
