The Queer Memory Society kicked off Queer History Month. What events can you look forward to in the coming weeks?
The Society for Queer Memory is a non-profit organization dedicated to collecting, preserving, researching and popularizing the history of the LGBTQ+ community in the Czech Republic. The organization was founded to record and preserve the stories and experiences of queer people that are often overlooked in the traditional historical record.
SPQP boasts many notable projects and events it has hosted in the past. These include exhibitions, lectures, and documentation projects that have charted queer history from its origins to the present. One notable project is "A Taste of Honey," which has focused on the personal stories of queer people and their experiences with love and life at different points in history.
On Tuesday, May 28, the organization launched the official program of Queer History Month, a series of six events in three cities in the Czech Republic (Prague, Brno, Pardubice). On Tuesday, the programme began with a screening of the film A Drop of Honey by director Tony Richardson with an introduction by curator Marie Barešová. What's next?

In the coming weeks, however, a number of queer events will be held in the Czech Republic, specifically in Prague, offering a wide range of activities for the LGBTQ+ community and its supporters. For example, on May 30, Queer Bazaar will be held, where people can meet over arts and crafts. On June 1, on the other hand, Sappho Salon in Prague is offering an open mic for feminist and queer performers who want to share their art to entertain others. On June 15, Summerween, a queer summer Halloween party in Prague, will feature local and international performers.
And finally, there's Drag Brunch on June 29 - a travesti show hosted by drag queen Kassie Di Wain. This event will also take place in Prague.
These and other events offer diverse opportunities to celebrate and support the LGBTQ+ community, not only in Prague but in other cities as well. If you're looking for opportunities to get involved in the community and have a great time, be sure not to miss any of the above events.
