Controversial singer Lil Nas X has apologized to the trans community. He responded to the outrage his ill-conceived joke caused
The situation was kicked off by an attempted joke that Lil Nas X tweeted yesterday. The post, which has since been deleted by its author, features a photo of a woman who resembles the singer and his caption , "Surgery gone well." By doing so, he implied that he had undergone gender reassignment surgery.
But the joke, which has transition as its punchline, has touched some trans people and they have not hesitated for a moment to lean into the singer. In particular, a tweet by a Twitter user nicknamed pocket resonated significantly: 'You're a gay cis man. Why are you making transition the punchline of a joke?"
But it didn't stop there, as Lil Nas X responded to the question with another tweet in which he was already getting vulgar: "Literally just saying he looks like me. You can't be f*cking serious." And the drama was on. But it seems the singer has given the situation more thought and realized his mistake. In fact, shortly afterwards, he apologized for his behavior in another tweet. "I apologize to the trans community. I definitely acted in anger in that situation instead of thinking about why it wasn't cool. Sending lots of love. Sorry."
Gay icon
Lil Nas X is an American singer, rapper and songwriter. He came to public attention in 2019 with his song Old Town Road. However, his debut studio album Montero from 2021 and especially the video for the title track had an even bigger impact. In it, among other things, the singer descends into hell on a dancing pole and does a sexy dance to Satan himself. Lil Nas X is openly gay himself and isn't afraid to proudly show his queerness to the world, whether through bold music videos or perhaps gender non-conforming clothing. He is a gay icon to many people, so it's good that he has realized his transgression in relation to other people in the LGBT+ community and apologized for his behavior.
