Successful men know how to dress well or Essential fashion rules that everyone who wants a career and higher earnings should know
Professional appearance = half the success
The signals a person sends outwardly depend on several factors, of course, but the truth is that clothing, or overall appearance, is one of them. The right choice of outfit is therefore essential not only for women, but also for men who are in "higher business". Adequate clothing not only promotes credibility but also inspires respect. Thus, a stylish image can have a very positive impact on business relationships and ultimately support further career development. After all, research shows that good-looking people also earn more. This is why everyone should think about choosing the right pieces of clothing for their particular workplace.
Be yourself, BUT...
On average, every person spends about a third of their life at work. And unless he or she is in an industry or position where they are required to wear a uniform, that means that for a full 90,000 hours (or 10 years straight), they are responsible for acting professionally while doing their job. Simply put, whether you work as a rank-and-file employee in an office or as a manager (and thus interact with countless important business partners on a daily basis), you should always think about what you're wearing.
A fairly general and fairly functional principle when dressing for work is to form your own imaginary "uniform". Yes, that's the style of dress that was inherent in, for example, Steve Jobs. The principle is simple: develop your own uniform style, which makes choosing from your wardrobe in the morning much easier. Of course, that doesn't mean you should start wearing a black turtleneck. But try to think about what message you want to send outwardly with your clothes, how you want to appear - and then adapt your clothes, or your entire wardrobe, to that.
But bear in mind that even though fashion is loosening up and, especially with the coronavirus pandemic, a lot of people suddenly feel that a tracksuit is the perfect workwear, that's not the direction you should be going in. "Younger people in particular are less willing to give up their comfort that they enjoyed so much during the pandemic. But they are up against themselves. If they have to go to a meeting with clients who have been in the business for a long time, it's hardly going to win them over if they give the impression that they can't even iron their shirt," Sean, a 30-something attorney at law, summarizes for GQ magazine.
Trousers - shirts - accessories
When it comes to the choice of trousers, freestyle is taboo. Forget the aforementioned relaxed fit, nothing belongs on the job but smart, well-fitting trousers. This also applies to all types of trousers with a touch of elastane, which some refer to as "chinos". How to spot them at first glance? They are tight, synthetic and almost always grey or khaki in colour. And you simply shouldn't wear them to work, especially to formal meetings. Choose trousers that fit well, are comfortable and, above all, are made of good quality material.
The situation is similar for shirts: although polo shirts are very popular, the ones you wear for sport don't belong in the office. How to recognize them? They are usually made of functional materials and give the impression that your mind is wandering around a golf course instead of a meeting. Yet there is such a wide variety of quality polo shirts on the market! Classic shirts should then be tucked into trousers at all times and, as too casual is also not extra desirable, consider whether it is appropriate to wear a loose shirt (it usually isn't).
Any outfit will then be accentuated (or conversely submerged) by the shoes. Leave the flip-flops at home. And trainers too - although their popularity in office fashion is growing. The range of elegant men's half-shoes is wide, so focus your attention in this direction (for example, the so-called oxfords will definitely not go wrong). Don't forget about socks. These should never reveal the ankle (never!) and should definitely not contain cheerful prints.

But accessories can also tell a lot about you. What should you wear with your documents? In a briefcase, of course. And definitely not in a backpack. And nothing on wheels either. A men's briefcase is the only possible and acceptable option. Some fashion experts recommend giving up smart watches in favour of classic ones (by the way, they are also a status symbol to some extent).
But in the end, of course, the very basic rule is that you should dress according to the position you have, or rather the job you have. Because even in the business world there is a certain type of hierarchy and being "overdressed", i.e. dressed too formally and ostentatiously, can be counterproductive in the end. And if you're groping around in fashion and are unsure whether you're choosing the right outfit for work, it can also help to ask whether you're going out with friends in your chosen outfit. If you do, change your clothes...
