The secret to the perfect interior? Unity and connectivity. "Start at the door," advises the designer
We use them daily. They are a natural part of life, they have become part of gestures, language, thinking. Don't you believe it? How about "keeping the back door" or a gesture as typical as slamming the door - you know exactly what it means. Yet the door is one of the last elements people think about when furnishing an interior. "But doors are one of the most important things you need to choose to give your home the look and feel you want," says designer Samantha Bacon. "Don't leave the choice to the last minute," she advises, "consider it part of the overall plan."
Why are we talking about doors now, you say, when we promised an article on the perfect (whole) interior? Because great interior design is all about choosing a unified material and color theme. And that starts with the door.
Trust the experts
Replacing your doors is a surefire way to change the feel of your entire interior. Imagine a classic prefab apartment "past its zenith". You can of course embark on a complete renovation, but in practice, renovations are more gradual. A new bathroom, a new kitchen... something is still missing. That something is the door. Replace them, choose all the same design and the apartment will be completely transformed.
Not everyone is lucky (or unlucky?) enough to renovate a standardized apartment. Historic buildings in particular present challenges in the form of atypical dimensions and space constraints. In this case, it is best to entrust yourself in the hands of experts, for example from HANÁK. The company boasts not only 30 years of tradition and experience, but also the most modern furniture factory in the Czech Republic. Its portfolio includes doors up to 2700 mm in height and it can even produce a customized model for you.
How to choose interior doors
The market options are wide and the possibilities for custom manufacturing are endless. "One of the most important things to consider when choosing a door is the surrounding space," Bacon points out. "Hinged doors require a clear space to open into, which takes up valuable living space." So for situations where you're limited by space, he recommends sliding doors.
If, on the other hand, you don't need to save space but want to play with it, try to imagine an overhung door in your interior. What would your hallway look like if it had floor-to-ceiling doors instead of the standard "two-metre" doors? Connoisseurs will also be intrigued by the fact that there are also revolving doors (and we don't mean the giant propeller one from the malls).
Choose the design with the whole in mind
Of course, the choice of door design depends on your style and aesthetic preferences. Basic decisions include whether to go down the classic or modern design route. This then goes hand in hand with the choice of material and finish. HANÁK can produce everything from French romance with rich profiling to minimalist modernity in white lacquer. But when choosing a door, think about how the rest of the interior will look. Remember, it's all about unity and connectivity.
Not just beauty, but function
It seems like an obvious idea, after all, "a door is a door", it separates rooms, what more is there to think about? Nothing. And at the same time, everything. In fact, you can make even higher demands on some doors. What about when you want complete peace and quiet?
Acoustic doors, or rather soundproof doors, are suitable wherever you have high demands for privacy. These are doors with increased sound insulation, making them the ideal choice for study rooms or bedrooms. In these, not only will you have a quiet night, but also the peace of mind that no one will hear you when the night isn't so quiet.
Another special type is fire doors. They may seem like "overkill" for a regular interior, but if you're concerned about safety (not just of people, but of property too), they make sense. This is also thanks to the fact that you can have any door made by HANÁK in the same design as the rest of the interior.
A new level of perfection
Note that we don't say "in the same design as the other doors", but "like the rest of the interior". Because you can take your home to the highest possible level when you integrate solid elements like doors with the rest of your furnishings. For example, by repeating the material used on the furniture. With ready-made furniture, however, you rarely get the colour and texture to match perfectly, but it's the exact match that we're after.
HANÁK can help you here too. They don't just specialise in doors, they design and manufacture complete interiors. Thanks to HANÁK Interior Concept, your home can be perfect. Your interior will not be made up of individual pieces of furniture somehow put together, but will be a well-thought-out unitary whole. In practice, this looks like the veneer used on the cabinets in the kitchen area is repeated on the built-in shelves in the living room, the upholstery on the dining chairs matches the sofa and the matt lacquer of the doors continues on the kitchen island. The veneered doors made into paneling are the icing on the cake of elegance and sophistication. So that the wood pattern follows.
The panelling is, by the way, a luxurious decorative element, which the famous architect Adolf Loos liked to work with. Forget the ornaments, he said, let the beauty of the material shine through. And that's exactly what you can afford when one company creates the entire interior. HANÁK prepares everything from design to production to installation. Everything not only looks perfect, but also works perfectly thanks to the combination of traditional craftsmanship and the latest technology.
You can see the magic of interiors built on the principle of unity and interconnectedness, which creates unique living in every space, at the HANÁK Forum showroom in Prague, the largest Czech interior design studio. In addition to room samples, you will also find a new section of interior doors with more than 50 examples.
