Penis size rankings by nation: can you guess who made it into the top 5? The results will surprise you!
Penis size - a topic that never gets old. Whether it's talked about openly over a drink or whispered in the bedroom, one thing is certain: curiosity and comparison are part of it. It's addressed by men and women alike, and even though the internet is flooded with articles about how size doesn't matter, most of us have addressed the question at some point.
That's why rankings of countries by average penis length appear regularly on the internet. Yes, it's not a 100% accurate science - many studies are based on data that men have self-reported (and we all know how it is with male "estimates"). Still, we find these statistics fascinating. And some of the results might actually surprise you.
Who rules the world?
According to the latest data, men from Sudan and the Democratic Republic of Congo have the largest penises - 17.9 cm on average. Ecuador is right behind with an average of 17.6 cm. Ghana and the Republic of Congo (both 17.3 cm) also make the top five, followed by Nigeria, Venezuela and Lebanon. Yes, Latin America certainly did not disappoint in this ranking.
Jamaica, the Dominican Republic and Brazil, which is famous for its beach culture, also made it into the top 20 - and it may make sense now why such daring swimwear is worn on Copacabana.
And who's unlucky?
To be fair, we also looked at the other end of the spectrum. There, Thailand (9.4cm), North Korea (9.6cm) and Cambodia (9.8cm) lead the way. Surprisingly, these are almost exclusively Asian countries - but experts stress that race is not the deciding factor. Rather, childhood nutrition, hormonal influences or even environmental factors such as pesticides and plastic softeners may play a role.
Average is not a bad word
The global average erect penis is 14.08 cm - and most men in the world hover right around that figure. So if you're panicking that "you're not big enough", it's good to remind yourself that most men are similar.
Moreover, studies show that penis girth is more important to most women than length alone. In other words, it's not what you have that's important, but how you can handle it.
Why size doesn't matter so much
The truth is often that men are much more concerned with size than their female partners. Most women are happy with their partner - and if they're not, the problem is more about communication or self-esteem than inches.
What about queer people? There are even more factors at play. For some gay men, size may be a fetish or part of dating preferences, while for others it doesn't play a role at all. Research shows that satisfaction in bed is most closely linked to compatibility, trust and openness - not the number on the ruler.
Interesting (and a little shocking) factors
Researchers in 2016 found that men circumcised as newborns have slightly smaller penises on average. There's also increasing talk about the impact of endocrine disruptors - chemicals in plastics or pesticides - on genital development. So we may see changes in average sizes in the future.
