The dentist knows what you did last night - forgive oral sex before a dental check-up
Watch out for the upper floor
In addition to how meticulous you are and whether you have a sweet tooth or a coffee habit, the dentist will also read information about your sex life from your open mouth. Specifically, whether you have given oral sex to anyone in the past few days. What does it tell you?
Reddish patches on the upper palate called petechiae. They're caused by the cracking of tiny blood vessels in the lining of the palate. There are a number of reasons why they may appear - from a virus, vitamin C or iron deficiency to blood diseases. However, another, very prosaic reason may be mechanical irritation or vacuum. And from licking a popsicle too hard, it probably won't...
What happens in the mouth
When the upper soft palate comes into contact with the tip of the penis, bruising can occur due to the blunt pressure and dilation of blood vessels caused by the vacuum created by "sucking". This is not just a joke circulating among dentists. This phenomenon was expertly described by a team of doctors from Mexico and Pennsylvania on the case of a 47-year-old man who came in for a routine dental checkup in 2018.
The patient with type 2 diabetes had suspicious redness on his upper palate. Because it can be a manifestation of a number of health problems, doctors immediately began to investigate possible causes. In a detailed interview with the physician, the patient admitted to marijuana use, cocaine use, and sexual contact with men. The last sex, which included oral stimulation of a partner, occurred three days before the dental examination. By ruling out the various possibilities, the doctors verified that the upper palate damage was not a sign of any disease but the result of honest smoking.
Even oral sex isn't safe
The study authors report that people often seek oral sex under the mistaken assumption that it is safe. However, the findings of their study confirm that even this type of sexual practice is not without risk. It is important to remember that oral sex can erode the oral mucosa and increase the risk of acquiring sexually transmitted diseases such as HIV, syphilis or HPV (human papillomavirus).
So when you make your next dental appointment, think carefully about what you want to disclose to your dentist. But how long should we abstain from oral sex so that the dentist doesn't get any information about this aspect of our lives? The patient in the medical study mentioned above had his redness disappear after seven days, and after two weeks there was no sign of any damage to his palate.
What else do teeth tell on you?
You'd be surprised how much there is. The shape of your teeth reveals your gender, age and even some personality traits. People with aggressive natures and strong personalities have prominent canines that are longer than the surrounding teeth. On the other hand, the canines of passive people lack a sharp point and are rounded. Easily manipulative people can be recognized by their small canines.
The problem of modern times is gnashing of teeth. A lot of people literally have ground down teeth from unconsciously pressing them together. Stress and anxiety cause this in 70% of cases, but caffeine, alcohol and nicotine consumption also contribute to gnashing.
The color of teeth has a major impact on an individual's attractiveness. Beautifully white teeth are a sign of success. A study conducted by Oral-B, a brand of oral hygiene products, found that white teeth can make you look five years younger. What's more, you'll look 20% more attractive to others than those with grey or yellowish teeth. The advice to avoid coffee, tea, wine, bicycles and many other things that make our lives more enjoyable for the sake of shiny teeth is futile. But you may be interested to know that drinking these drinks through a straw will reduce the formation of stains on your teeth. Still, it's a good idea to brush your teeth properly after consumption.
