Is there a new anthem for gay kids? Elton John and Brandi Carlile present a joint album full of hope

When two prominent personalities of the music scene come together and have deep and meaningful lyrics, they also get a great chance to reach several other generations with their songs. That's what artists Elton John and Brandi Carlile are trying to do now with their new song "Swing for the Fences," part of their upcoming collaborative album "Who Believes in Angels?" The track delivers not only a pleasant and energetic musical experience from the first notes, but also a strong message of courage and support, especially for the LGBTQ+ community.

Music as an instrument of change

Both Elton John and Brandi Carlile are not only talented musicians, but also prominent activists, which logically translates into their professions. Elton John has been a lifelong champion of equality, and through his Elton John AIDS Foundation he helps people living with HIV. Brandi Carlile, on the other hand, uses her music to open up themes that have had almost no space in country and folk music for far too long. She also strongly supports young queer artists.

Bringing these twotogether gives their new work a deeper dimension - Swing for the Fences is not just a song to stave off boredom, but also a call to be authentic and dare to be yourself.

"This song is a challenge to anyone who has ever dreamed big. As a gay woman and Elton as a gay man, we have both built families and careers that have exceeded our wildest expectations," Brandi said.

An anthem of courage and confidence

The lyrics of their song encourage determination and stepping out confidently to pursue your dreams. The title itself refers to the idea of giving your all to your endeavors and not being afraid of any challenges. At a time when LGBT youth still face various obstacles in their lives from society and the state, this song can become a new symbol of hope.

Elton John admitted that it was a key moment in the making of the whole album, "When we recorded it, it was a breakthrough. Everything started to fall into place and we felt a tremendous joy and excitement. It basically set the tone for the whole project."

Iconic musical messages to minorities

Elton has previously released several songs that have widely appealed to the LGBTQ+ community, including "Your Song" and "I'm Still Standing". However, he is not alone in doing so; other artists' songs have played a similar role. For example, Lady Gaga 's "Born This Way" has become an unofficial queer anthem right out of the gate, or there's Cyndi Lauper 's "True Colors, " which gives hope to people seeking acceptance from their loved ones.

Another powerful track is "Brave" by Sara Bareilles, which calls for openness and courage, or "Firework" by Katy Perry, which encourages us to not be afraid to shine and show the best of ourselves.

The album Who Believes in Angels? will be released on April 4 and, in addition to its powerful message, will offer a diverse range of musical styles that reflect the shared musical and personal journeys of both artists. Interestingly, the recording process took just 20 days under the guidance of producer Andrew Watt, who brings a certain spontaneity and raw energy to the projects he collaborates on. As a result, fans can look forward to a combination of rock, folk and gospel elements.
