Samsung Galaxy AI: A system that doesn't simplify the world, but makes it simpler for us
The universal helper in your pocket
I was honestly very curious to try out the new Galaxy AI features. I wasn't expecting miracles, I was just hoping the phone would make my job easier in some ways - or at least simplify things I do every day anyway. What specifically? I'm an editor who always has an article in progress, a game writer who expands my own fantasy world in my spare time, and an occasional amateur photographer who likes to capture extraordinary moments.
Three quite different activities - but they all have one thing in common. They rely on creativity and the ability to express, capture or articulate something. And all thoughts and ideas come at any time and any place - sometimes at a desk, sometimes while waiting for a tram or during a walk. And it's Galaxy AI that helps me capture them, develop them and refine them into a form I can work with further.
You know what the best part is? I don't feel like I'm using any complex technology at all. Everything is simple, intuitive and actually natural. I don't feel like I'm playing with features. I feel like someone whose daily, often demanding routine has suddenly become a lighter and smoother part of the day. Not because I'm working less - but because I'm doing everything much smarter.
When I create notes, they are sometimes overly long, descriptive sentences. I try to capture the atmosphere, the mood of the space, the sensory details. It's just that when I need to pass on the information later, it's not always easy. That's where the Note Assistant comes in.
A few days ago a friend sent me a longer, stylized text - it was a description of the setting for a student film script. It had strong atmosphere, imagery and dramatic pace, but as a basis for a prop or set designer it was too literary. But what would I describe it, here is the incriminating text to give you an idea:
The narrow staircase spun like a rusty spiral, inviting you higher - but only if you forget that a way down may not be possible. The plaster peeled, the iron railings stuck under your palm, and each step sounded like time breaking beneath you. On the second floor, a child's drawing hung on the wall. A house, a sun, and three figures not holding hands. It was signed "Jana, 1978". The drawing was under glass, but the glass was cracked. Maybe by accident. Maybe not.
The smell of dampness wasn't just in the walls - it was like someone had smeared it across the ceiling with a paintbrush. It clung to hair, clothes and thoughts. And with each step, the silence grew. A silence that doesn't calm. A silence that waits for you to disturb something - so it can echo back. A child's shoe lay on the floor of the third floor. Small, pointy, with a lace threaded into the eye socket like an eyebolt.
So I had it processed by the Galaxy AI. The result was a clear, easy-to-understand output that could serve as an ideal foundation for anyone on the production team:
Scene description - interior of an old apartment building
Summary: Set design for the scene: a dilapidated, abandoned apartment building with 70's elements and an uncomfortably oppressive atmosphere.
Key visual elements:
Narrow, spiralstaircase, old iron railings, peeling plaster, creaking steps.
Decoration and details: children's drawing on the wall (house, sun, three figures, signature: Jana, 1978), glass frame with a crack, stylish elements evoking the 70s (wallpaper, paint, furniture)
Sensory impressions: a distinct smell of dampness (in the walls and furniture), a silence that is disturbing and the feeling that the figure is being watched
Props : A child's shoe (small, distinctive, string threaded through a hole like an eyelet)
Instead of a complicated search for sentences between the lines, everything is clearly broken down. Galaxy AI won't replace human imagination (for a long time yet), of course, but it can convert complex text into a form that can be used universally instantly. And it's at times like these that it's that magical and unobtrusive but very effective helper.
And speaking of writing - another gadget that has really made my job easier is editing the text according to "mood". Sometimes I write an email that's supposed to be formal but sounds too crisp. Other times I want to be friendly, but I'm not sure if that comes across as weird. This is where the Galaxy AI offers me a rewording. I choose the tone I want - and get a draft that sounds just right. Neither too dry nor too casual. This helps me not only with work emails, but also with writing characters for the game - trying out how they would speak in different ways. More sarcastic? More subtle? More natural? Galaxy AI just gives me more options. Excellent!
One of my favourite helpers is the transcription of audio recordings from the answering machine. When you have an amazing thought on your walk, you just say it out loud and the phone converts it into text, then adds a brief summary or better structure. So far it only works in English (and other languages besides English), but it can still save a lot of time.
When I'm not writing, I like to take pictures. Interesting buildings, playful light in alleys, nature. And Galaxy AI gives me tools that used to exist only in complex programs. For example, I take a picture of a beautiful scene, but there's someone with an umbrella in the middle of the frame. Many people would reach for a professional photo editing program, but here it basically just takes two finger taps and the phone uses Generative Editing to remove the figure and the umbrella. It's like it was never there. The Galaxy AI not only deletes the object, it also calculates the background behind it so naturally that in most cases you won't even notice the change. And perhaps even more impressively, the shadow that would otherwise be there as evidence that something has been removed disappears!
And speaking of editing, you'll also find tools like "Delete Shadows" and "Delete Reflections" right in the built-in photo editor. This comes in handy when shooting through glass or in harsh light, for example, where it's common to reflect your face or surroundings. For photos of shop windows, showcases or shiny surfaces, it works surprisingly well - and the result looks totally professional, even if it was taken with just a few clicks on your phone.
Another great helper is the "Enhance image quality" function. If your phone's photos are dark, noisy, faded or otherwise poor quality, Galaxy AI brings them to life with sharpness, colour and life. So they're not just a faded memory - they're beautiful, reusable pictures. That's especially useful today when you're dragging in lower-quality photos from an older phone.
Another great option is the Enhance-X app. While it's not directly part of the Galaxy AI suite, it complements it perfectly and uses the same AI technologies for advanced photo analysis and editing. It's like a smart photo lab right on your phone. It removes blur, improves night photos, fixes burnt-out areas or lightens what's been drowned in darkness. It can even do portrait enhancements - remove minor skin blemishes, add depth of field. And what I was most excited about: when you combine two photos with different lighting, the Artificial Exposure feature merges them into one, perfectly balanced one.
And what's completely subtle but utterly brilliant? The ProVisual Engine. It works silently in the background - and automatically detects the scene while you're shooting. It knows if you're shooting food, a portrait, a landscape or a city at night. It adjusts exposure, colour, sharpness and white balance accordingly. So you can focus on composition - your phone does the rest.
The Instant Slow function works in a similar way. This lets you slow down any video that's already been shot - even if you haven't set anything up beforehand. Just hold your finger on the video at the moment you want to slow it down, and Galaxy AI will calculate smooth motion as if it was already slowed down when you shot it.
What can I say in conclusion? For me, Galaxy AI is not just a set of tools, but rather a practical addition that adapts to how I use my phone. In addition to creativity, it can make everyday communication easier. Real-time call translation allows you to speak to someone in a foreign language without translating anything manually - so far only in supported languages, again outside of English, but it's already a great tool when travelling or interacting with foreign countries, for example. A split-screen interpreter then allows for smooth face-to-face conversation.
With the Circle to Search function, just circle any object or text on the display with your finger - and the phone will instantly offer relevant results without you having to copy or search for anything separately.
All of this (and many other features) makes Galaxy AI the most sophisticated and comprehensive suite of smart features available in phones today, in my opinion. And most importantly - it doesn't impose itself and isn't overly "smart". It just naturally complements what you do. Whether you're working with text, taking photos, translating, or just looking for information, Samsung has simply hit the mark with Galaxy AI. It doesn't rely on effect, it relies on utility. And that's what makes the whole system feel so natural. It doesn't simplify the world, it simplifies the way we work in it.
