Features of the CUPRA Terramar
The electrified SUV recalls the name Terramar, the historic racing circuit where the CUPRA brand was born in 2018. The CUPRA Terramar is available with five different powertrains based on three technologies: TSI (petrol engines), eTSI (mild hybrid units) and a new generation of plug-in hybrid systems (eHybrid). The power outputs of the drives on offer cover a range from 150 hp to 272 hp. The eHybrid version provides a maximum output of up to 272 hp (200 kW), allows a range of more than 100 km purely on electricity and is compatible with fast charging (charging power up to 50 kW with DC).
Driving dynamics are enhanced by the standard sports chassis with progressive steering, new adaptive chassis control and Akebono brakes.
You can tell the CUPRA Terramar by looking at it
If there's one thing about the CUPRA Terramar that sets it apart and makes it easy to spot even on the darkest of nights, it's its eyes. The unmistakable triangular headlights, the brand's signature feature, shine brightly, standing out from the crowd and simultaneously illuminating the road ahead. These headlights offer much more than just design. They are the result of careful research and meticulous development. The Terramar also presents itself as a cutting-edge car. "The CUPRA Terramar achieves the highest level of light output thanks to its 25,000 pixels and high-resolution Matrix LED Ultra technology," explains Magnolia Paredes, who is responsible for the development of electronic lighting systems at CUPRA.
Innovative lighting functions for your comfort and safety
What's behind the CUPRA Terramar's fixed gaze? Above all, state-of-the-art precision. One of the greatest innovations is the automatic non-glare high beam function, which detects oncoming or oncoming vehicles and blocks them out to prevent glare. All without reducing visibility of other parts of the road.
The dimmable lights equipped with high-definition technology also offer other innovations - for example, on roads with more than three lanes, the lane lighting function is activated to direct more light in front of the vehicle and adjust its distribution to the road layout, making it easier to drive in the dark. The CUPRA Terramar is not only powerful, it's fun to drive. It has attractive welcome and farewell lighting effects that project animations onto the surface in front of the vehicle when the doors open and close.
Luxurious interior with charming details
The interior design of the CUPRA Terramar is inspired by nature. "At CUPRA, it has always been clear to us that the interior finishes must be consistent with the structural design of the car and vice versa. Shape must pursue the same goal as functionality, and the two elements must be in harmony with each other," says Francesca Sangalli, Head of Colour and Materials with responsibility for CUPRA's concept and brand strategy.
In this sense, CUPRA Terramar has three fundamental pillars - light structure, enveloping muscularity and glamorous details. The structure incorporates 3D graphic elements that, with their rawness and exposure, add texture and give the impression of movement. Instead of covering and enveloping the parts, CUPRA seeks to highlight their authentic beauty. In this way, it creates 'living', dynamic elements with added value.
The second key factor, enveloping musculature, focuses on parts with a soft-touch surface. The balance in the interior is not disturbed by any double stitching or separation of soft surfaces from the dimensional chunky parts. The copper colour, then, is a charming detail that was important in the choice of materials for the CUPRA Terramar and has become one of the brand's hallmarks. It helps to highlight the main design elements that define the brand and, in combination with the other two pillars, makes it easily recognisable.
Sporty style and comfort are not mutually exclusive
The interior of the CUPRA Terramar is a new interpretation of sportiness. The driver-facing dashboard is complemented by a unique centre console design. Great attention has been paid to sustainability - for example, the shell seats have centre surfaces upholstered with fabric made from 100% recycled SEAQUAL® YARN fibre, Dinamica® material with 73% recycled polyester or leather, the processing of which uses plant-based agents.
During development, the focus was on digitalisation. A newly designed and enhanced user interface incorporates a digital instrument cluster panel complemented by a central 12.9" infotainment display with illuminated retro-style touch-sensitive scrolling controls. CUPRA continues its collaboration with the audio experts at Sennheiser Mobility. This enables the new Terramar to be equipped with a 12-speaker hi-fi audio system, giving passengers the experience of listening to Sennheiser's signature clear sound.
CUPRA is one of the fastest growing automotive brands in Europe and has already delivered 700,000 cars as of 2018. "The Terramar is a car that reinforces CUPRA's position today as a brand that is even more mature, more confident in its direction and more secure in its identity than before, without in any way retreating from its rebel spirit and authenticity," says Wayne Griffiths, Chairman of CUPRA.
