What will we be smoking in 100 years? The evolution of technology and its connection to the tobacco industry raises many questions
Progress is not easily smoked
The desire for stimulation and relaxation is an innate part of our nature. Since time immemorial, we have sought ways to enjoy moments of peace and quiet. In the past, we discovered tobacco and its consumption in the form of (not only) cigarettes for this purpose. These have become not only a means of relaxation, but also part of social rituals and ceremonies. However, with the development of science and technology, new possibilities are emerging that can offer us alternatives to smoking and change our perceptions of the form they have taken for many, many generations.
Heated tobacco represents one of these developments. This new way of consuming tobacco appears, according to partial studies to date, to be more friendly to our health than traditional smoking, as it does not involve direct burning of the tobacco.
And here comes the crucial issue that more or less everyone is dealing with.
Over time, we are relying more and more on technology and integrating it into all areas of our lives. And we should ask where this may lead and whether we are ready for technology to become a key component even in a risky area such as smoking. That, of course, is for everyone to answer for themselves, especially tobacco users.
One of the highest forms of advancement in nicotine use at the moment is heated tobacco devices, and there are only a few companies on the market, so they have to keep coming up with whatever big innovations they can to capture the ever-expanding market.
So let's look specifically at the latest one, produced by British American Tobacco.
Glo HYPER X2 AIR - Minimalism is still in
The glo device, the flagship product of British American Tobacco, probably needs no introduction. Although it has only been on the market for 5 years, it is becoming increasingly popular. That's why BAT regularly comes up with innovations of greater or lesser magnitude. Remember the reflection that with the full acceptance of technology comes the interest in improving, enhancing and reducing it? That's exactly the case here.
BAT is currently proving just how dynamic developments in the heated tobacco field are with a current innovation called the glo HYPER X2 AIR. It's the thinnest model yet, retains its cutting-edge technology, and is presented in 7 exclusive shades inspired by a variety of celestial colours.
With this move, the company reaffirms its role as a progressive innovator in the field of nicotine alternatives. The new HYPER X2 AIR glo pleases users above all with its ultra slim format of 12.5 millimetres in width, while also weighing 25% less than the previous model.
In terms of technological equipment, its smaller dimensions are no obstacle. It still operates on the New Heating Technology induction heating principle, which heats the tobacco cartridge quickly and evenly. The user-favourite boost function also remains available. The tobacco refill unit is visually less conspicuous compared to previous generations, emphasising the compact appearance of the device.
The sleek design is accentuated by the 7 unique colour shades that glo's designers have traditionally been careful to include. This time, they've taken inspiration from the range of colours that nature itself can conjure up in the sky, whether it's the northern lights, the evening twilight or the morning dawn. Choose from vibrant velvet pink or ocean blue, pastel light teal, soft rosey gold or crisp purple, or dark moonless black and space navy.
However, the glo brand has long since ceased to be synonymous with devices for the enjoyment of nicotine alternatives, but in the spirit of general progress and the intermingling of different areas of human life, it is also a multi-genre platform, as demonstrated by its activities in the fields of design, music and support for cultural projects in general. Fans of glo will thus be able to look forward to a number of events with which the brand is associated or is directly involved. What is and will be glo's journey in 2023?
Prague Open Air - Ledárny Braník, where glo will have its own LOUNGE throughout the summer and is one of the partners of about 20 music concerts.
Colours of Ostrava, where glo has the largest partner zone, which is a haven for thousands of festival visitors every year and where this year many artists such as Honza Žampa alias Eddie Stoilow, Emma Smetana & Jordan Haj, Anděl 2022 award winner Lazer Viking or Paulie Garand will perform.
Glorchestra, their own musical project, after two years as a successful musical tour, will present this year as a solo project in Prague's Rudolfinum, where the exclusive guest will be German DJ, producer and creator of electronic music Christian Löffler, who will perform in conjunction with Unique Orchestra.
Signal Festival, a legendary festival of digital and creative culture that has been connecting art, urban space and modern technology for more than a decade, which is why glo has become a long-standing ally and part of it.
"glo" has also partnered with a number of other projects such as the Fingers Up music festival, or the ongoing collaboration with DJ NobodyListen, who this spring co-created a limited edition perfume and fragrance "by glo" called The 5 Senses, glo will also partner with a number of his music projects and performances this year.
The glo HYPER X2 AIR device has been available since the beginning of June to adult users on the batstore.cz e-shop, mainstream retailers, as well as in custom glo LOUNGEs at festivals and concerts across the country.
